NATIONALS 2022 - POSTPONMENT

I hope you are all well and staying safe especially our skaters and families in NSW and Victoria.

The SA National Speed Technical Committee held a zoom meeting last week. One of the Agenda items was 2022 Nationals.

Unfortunately, Skate NSW have advised that they are not in a position to hold Nationals as scheduled in January and due to the current Covid situation doubt they would be able to hold them at all next year. Skate South Australia have advised they would be happy to host them; but with the different Covid lockdown scenarios over Australia it was decided that it would not be possible or fair to hold them in January. The Committee will meet again in January to discuss Nationals.

Please know this decision was not taken lightly and we understand that this is frustrating for skaters but the reasoning for the postponement is far greater than the competition itself. Our skating community is suffering for what has taken place with Covid and the health and safety of everyone is so important. The different lockdown situation makes it very difficult for some skaters to even get out to train and we have to take all of this into consideration.

We also discussed the various quarantine requirements and it is just too hard at the moment for people to commit.

Take care and please stay safe, train when you can and hopefully before too long we will all be able to meet up again. Look after yourself and each other.

Regards

Pauline Robertson
