GP series rules
The GP series shall be run as per the current Skate Australia speed rules for indoor events and the current World Skate Speed rules (subject to the below modifications) for road and banked track events.
• Gloves must be worn for road racing events.
• Only the first 3 skaters need to complete the full race distance. All skaters placed 4th or below will be finished the first time they cross the finish line after the third placed skater has completed the full race distance.
GP series grades
The SkateNSW Speed Branch GP series consists of ability-based grades. The grades offered for each series is determined prior to the start of each series by the GP series grading committee 1.
Skaters are encouraged to nominate for an appropriate grade. If you are unsure of the correct grade please consult your coach or the grading committee.
The grading committee reserves the right to re-grade any skater who is in an inappropriate grade at any point during their first round of the series in which they compete. If reassignment occurs, the skater is entitled to be awarded the points that their time trial (if a time trial was contested) would have given them within their new grade (with all other skaters results adjusted to suit) but can carry no other points over to their new grade.
If a skater changes grades from their second round contested onwards, they are not entitled to carry any points over to their new grade. Their points in their former grade will however stand for the remainder of the series and they will be eligible for any prizes that those points are eligible for at the end of the series.
The Open events are conducted as a separate points series. Skaters from A, B and C grades 2 are eligible to participate in the Open events.
The Grades offered for the 2026 NSW GP Series will be:
- A Grade – Intended for proven elite skaters only (200mTT <24s, 3km <6mins).
- B Grade – Intended for developing skaters (200mTT >24s but <29s, 3km >6mins but <7min).
- Open Quads – Open only skaters competing on quad skates.
- C Grade – Intended for new skaters (200mTT >29s, 3km >7mins)..
1 The grading committee consists of the SkateNSW State Speed VP, the NSW Coaches Coordinator and the NSW Officials Coordinator, or their nominated representatives.
2 Subject to safety considerations.
