Event Calendar and Notices

SkateNSW Speed Events calendar

The SkateNSW speed branch runs a year round programme incorporating a number of differing events, culminating in the NSW State Championships. Each year SkateNSW selects a State Speed team to compete at the National Championships, from which in turn, SkateAustralia selects Oceania and World Championship representative teams.

Not everyone has ambitions to be a World Champion and SkateNSW speed branch offers a variety of events that suit all levels of skater.

In order to compete in any SkateNSW sanctioned event you need to be a member of SkateNSW. Please see the membership and club pages for further information.

SkateNSW Recreational events:

While primarily administered by the Speed branch, the target of these events is aimed towards all skaters with the emphasis being on participation and self achievement over competition and winning. These events are seen as being an introduction to organised skating and the aim is to provide fun and challenging events that bring people together in the context of skating. For further information please see the SkateNSW recreational skating page.

SkateNSW Promotional events:

Throughout the year SkateNSW in involved in a number of promotional events. Some of these are as simple as an information booth while others include demonstrations and come and try skating activities.

SkateNSW Support events:

Speed Skating has the flexibility that it can be carried out on a variety of courses, from 100m straight line sprints right through to long point to point races. Each year there are a number of events that the NSW Speed branch runs support races in conjunction with, such as cycling events and triathlons.

SkateNSW one day or Tour events:

These are stand alone events that are similar to the SkateNSW support events in nature. They can be a single race or a series of races over a weekend.

SkateNSW GP Series:

This is the premier interclub race series within NSW and sees skaters vying for overall honours through the accumulating points at the various GP race events throughout the year. The GP series offers ability based grades that are suitable for all levels of skater. For further details on this series please see the procedures, guidelines and rules page.

SkateNSW NSW State Championships:

The premier speed event on the NSW calendar, the event sees the crowning of NSW State Champions over a number of distances and age groups. To be eligible to compete in the NSW State Championships you need to have competed in at least two SkateNSW sanctioned speed events in the 12 months since the previous State Championships (events that are shown in black text in the calendar) or have successfully applied for an exemption.
